A number of towns and villages along the route will be hosting events to celebrate VELOTHON Wales passing through and to create a festival-like atmosphere for the amateur and professional cyclists.
Our Spectator Guide has information on the best places to watch the event and the times you can expect to see amateur and professional cyclists pass through.
Details on community events can be seen below. If your community is organising an event, please let us know by contacting email@example.com.
Bangers ‘n’ Bikes BBQ
After saving old bikes discarded to recycling centres, Monmouthshire County Council is teaming up with Cycle Usk at a Bangers ‘n’ Bikes BBQ party to decorate cycles that will be displayed around the town to welcome cyclists to the area ahead of the VELOTHON Wales.
The two-hour event will start at 3.30pm at Usk Primary School on Friday 12th May.
Langstone Village Hall
Langstone Village Hall in Newport will act as base for spectators looking to catch a glimpse of cyclists on an early section of the route. Spectators will be able to wander down from the hall to the Langstone Road/Chepstow Road junction.
The local community council plan to make refreshment and toilet facilities available for riders and spectators from the hall.
The Great British Bike Off
Monmouthshire will send a warm welcome to cyclists passing through on VELOTHON event day and any visiting during the build-up in training with its Great British Bike Off. Local residents and businesses in Usk are giving old bikes a facelift before displaying them in the town to bring an extra splash of colour to the route.
Beautiful Bikes & Breakfast
A number of catering businesses in Usk are opening early so residents can make the most of the morning while enjoying a sumptuous breakfast. In Usk, the Nags Head Pub in Twyn Square will be serving coffee and cake, the Three Salmons Hotel will be open for its renowned breakfast and the Castle Inn, Green Flute Café and Blossoms Coffee Shop will all be open from 10am. A great start to the day while passing cyclists eat up the miles! For a lovely lunch – the New Court Inn and Hall Inn will also be open.
The Caerleon Festival is taking place from the 6th – 16th July but there will be events happening specifically on VELOTHON day on the 9th July. Spellbound takes place at 4.30pm at the St Julian Inn offering the listener a wide variety of music and a Festival Songs of Praise will take place at 4pm at St Cadocs’ Church in Caerleon. Everyone welcome!
