To celebrate four years of the HSBC UK Breeze programme in Wales, VELOTHON have teamed up with Welsh Cycling to offer Breeze Champions an opportunity to enter a prize draw for FREE entry on this year’s new 60km route or the established 140km and 125km routes.
The HSBC UK Breeze Programme, which is aimed at helping women feel confident and comfortable about going on a ride, has been a great success in Wales thanks to the champions who dedicate their time to organizing local bike rides on a weekly basis.
The programme has created well over 15,000 cycling opportunities for Women across the country to date.
Emma White, Women and Girls Participation Officer at Welsh Cycling said: “We are so lucky to have such support from our HSBC UK Breeze Champions, who work really hard to break down the barriers to cycling for women and girls.
“It’s an amazing feeling seeing both women and girls confidence flourish on the bike, and it’s all down to the champions.
A point-to-point route, the team will start in the picturesque town of Usk in Monmouthshire, travelling south towards Pontypool and the challenging Caerphilly Mountain, before a fast descent towards the Welsh capital and a grandstand finish on the iconic Kind Edward VII Avenue.
“We are so grateful to VELOTHON for offering us the team spaces, which will be a great opportunity for our champions to race through the stunning scenery of South Wales, and take advantage of and enjoy the traffic-free roads”.
VELOTHON Wales Event Manager Naomi Warner said: “A major focus for VELOTHON Wales 2018 is to introduce new riders to cycling, and what better place for beginners to build their confidence on a bike than on closed roads through the picturesque Welsh countryside.
“The HSBC UK Breeze Champions have inspired hundreds of women to get in the saddle, and we’re delighted to be able to give something back for their tireless work. We cannot wait to see the smiles on their faces as they complete our new 60km route in Cardiff city centre.”
VELOTHON WALES will take place on July 8th 2018.
