Start Groups

Our tried and true race group allocation system ensures you start in the appropriate group.

Our tried and true race group allocation system has been perfected through years of experience, and ensures that you start in the appropriate group, according to your ambition.

VELOTHON Stockholm 2017 has a couple of new start groups, to suit both elite cyclists, beginners, and everyone in between. On race day we will send everyone off in different start waves, with small gaps between each wave to keep them separated at the official start at KM 0 (after 2.4km).



First out on the 60KM course at 08:10 are Competition (Open/Sport) 60, followed shortly by Motion 60, Girl's Group 60 and then additional Motion 60 groups.

Motion 60

  • Just register and go – no license required
  • No official results (ranking), but you get your finish time online
  • Your time starts from when you pass the KM 0

Girls Group 60

  • Bike VELOTHON Stockholm with a start pen consisting of only girls! 
  • Just register and go – no license required
  • No official results (ranking), but you get your finish time online
  • Your time starts from when you pass the KM 0

Competition (Open/Sport) 60

  • For those with a one-day license or an annual license ”Base”, ”Master Men/Woman”, ”Elite Men/Woman”, ”Under 23”, ”Junior Men/Woman” or ”Youth Men/Woman”. Ages 16+.
  • You have experience riding in a peloton and have the ambition to average at least 35km/h
  • You need a license and need to follow the RULES of the Open/Sport group
  • You can purchase a one-day license for 200 SEK during registration
  • Results published as “HSport” (men) and “DSport” (women)
  • Your time starts from when the lead cyclist in your group passes the KM 0

The Women's Race starts at 07:25 from Jordbro and finishes on Ringvägen in central Stockholm.

Womens Race

  • For those with a ”Elite Women”, ”Women Under 23”, ”Master Women” or a ”Junior Women” license. Age 17+.
  • For those who regulary take part in races
  • Start outside of Stockholm with 8 laps on a course of 4.2k (33,6k). After that you race into the city to finish at the same location as everyone else. Total distance 61.6k.
  • Limited to 150 riders
  • Service vehicles allowed
  • Intermediate sprint presented by Märsta Förenade after 7th lap (after 29,4k)
  • Prize money to the top 3 riders
  • Registration and payment HERE





First out on the 160KM course at 07:33 are the Elite Men, followed shortly by Competition (Men's Senior/Veteran/Junior), Competition (Open/Sport) 160, Fast Groups, Motion 160, Girl's Group 160 and then additional Motion 160 groups.

Motion 160

  • Just register and go – no license required
  • No official results (ranking), but you get your finish time online
  • Your time starts from when you pass the KM 0

Girls Group 160

  • Bike VELOTHON Stockholm with a start pen consisting of only girls! 
  • Just register and go – no license required
  • No official results (ranking), but you get your finish time online

Fast Groups

  • If you want to ride together with at least 10 other people
  • You have the ambition to average at least 35km/h
  • No license required
  • Unitary clothing required (jersey minimum) on all team members
  • No official results (ranking), but you get your finish time online
  • Your time starts from when you pass the KM 0

Competition (Open/Sport) 160

  • For those with a one-day license or an annual license ”Base”, ”Master Men/Woman”, ”Elite Men/Woman”, ”Under 23”, ”Junior Men/Woman” or ”Youth Men/Woman”. Ages 16+.
  • You have experience riding in a peloton and have the ambition to average at least 35km/h

  • For those of you who normally compete in men's senior, veteran or junior races
  • Results published in different age groups
  • Product prizes
  • Your time starts from when the lead cyclist in your group passes the KM 0

Elite Men

  • For those with a ”Under 23” or ”Elite Men” license. Age 19+.
  • For those of you who normally compete in elite races
  • Limited to 150 riders
  • A neutral service vehicle will stay behind the peloton from the start. Team service vehicles can join after 9km (from Hellasgården).
  • Prize money to the top 3 riders
  • Intermediate sprint presented by Märsta Förenade in Nynäshamn centre
