Rules

It's important that you know the rules of your start group as they may differ. Read and learn the rules of the different start groups here.

Fast Groups, Motion and Girls Group:

  • Participation is done at your own risk, the organizer has an insurance through the Swedish cycling federation.
  • The organizer does not cover loss or damage.
  • To participate it is mandatory to turn 16 years old the latest on 31st of December 2017.
  • An approved helmet shall be worn on the head during the entire race and shall be well attached. Helmets carried on the neck are not approved at this time.
  • In case of an accident, call 112 or the number on the backside of the bib number.
  • Cut off times are used and will be handled by a broom wagon. If you are passed by the broom wagon you are no longer part of the race. You are allowed to continue but do so with regular traffic rules. If you quite the race without having been passed by the broom wagon, please notify the organization by calling the number on the backside of the bib number,
  • Mobile phones are not allowed to use during the race. Listening to music during the race is also forbidden.
  • Cyclists may only throw away garbage in a safe way, next to the road at the "Skräpzoner" (litter zones).
  • The following bike(s) are forbidden at VELOTHON Stockholm – bikes with disc wheels, handlebar extensions, recumbent bicycles, electronic bikes of any kind, fixed gear bikes / single speeds / fixies (allowed with two independent brakes and a free hub), any attachment parts that endanger other riders (e.g. kick stands that stick out), bike trailers, child seats, bottle cages under or behind the saddle, drinking bottles that are made of non-breakable or hard materials like aluminum or hard plastic. 
  • Riders wishing to take part on a tandem together will need to enter each competitor individually and pay the applicable fee (except Para cyclist).
  • Disc brakes are currently free to use during the event but we follow UCI's rules and therefore this can come to change.
  • Exception from the rules can be allowed, for example due to medical reasons. Contact the organizer well ahead of the race for approval of exception.
  • Not following the rules above will lead to immediate elimination from the race.

Open/Sport:

  • License The participant shall hold a license to participate in the Open/Sport start group. Participants with a one-day- license must be member of a cycling club. 
  • Radio communication The usage of radio communication or other kind of remote communication between cyclists and other team members is not permitted. Cyclists may not use cell phones during the race. Cyclists who do not follow the rules above will not be allowed to start, or immediately disqualified.
  • Identification of cyclist Cyclist shall attach the given bib number well visible on the rear side of the jersey. The number may not be resized or modified in any way.
  • Cyclist who abandons the race Cyclists who abandon the race shall inform the volunteer in the broom wagon or the race organizer in another way. He/she may not cross the finish line. Unless he/she is hurt or seriously injured there is the possibility to ride in the boom wagon buss to the finish.
  • Cyclists right and obligations Cyclists may give minor help to each other,  such as lending food, drinks, tools etc. Pushing is forbidden, also within same team and doing so will lead to disqualification.
  • Sprints It is absolutely forbidden for cyclists to leave the initial line when having commenced the sprint and thereby risking the safety of other cyclists.
  • Finish and timing Results are always decided on the order of passing the finish line. 
  • Timing All cyclists within the same group shall be given the same time. A new time will be given when the gap between cyclist is more than one second.
  • In case of an incident or accident, call 112 or the number on the backside of the bib number.
