The race is on for a place at VELOTHON Wales as the nation’s largest closed road cycling event returns on July 8 2018.
Entry for the challenging 140km route, including the famous climbs up the Tumble and Caerphilly Mountain, is now open. This year, a limited number of 5,000 discounted places are on offer for those who act fast and sign-up. Thousands of keen pre-registrants have already secured thousands of the discounted entries, to secure their spot on the start-line in the heart of Cardiff City centre.
Run 4 Wales, the event delivery team behind Wales’ largest mass-participation events such as the Cardiff Half Marathon, will manage the event moving forward after agreeing a license agreement with owners IRONMAN.
A host of exciting changes have already been introduced for 2018. A brand new pair of shorter routes will be revealed in the autumn, offering a brand-new experience for cycling enthusiast and newcomers alike.
Riders will no longer have to travel to Cardiff the day before the event to pickup their race-pack as they will now be posted direct.
Run 4Wales Chief Executive Matt Newman, commented: “We’re delighted to open entries for the revamped 2018 instalment of VELOTHON Wales after a swell of early interest. The nation’s largest cycling sportive is becoming an iconic event in the Welsh sporting calendar and we look forward to welcoming cycling enthusiasts from across the globe to take-in our stunning scenery on a series of challenging courses.
“With our strong track-record in managing mass-participation sporting events in Wales, we feel we can add considerable local expertise to help grow the event over the next three years. There is obviously a big demand for closed-road cycling events and we want to ensure that Wales remains part of this global series.”
Oliver Schiek, Head of Operations at Ironman added: “We know that Velothon Wales is in a safe pair of hands and look forward to continuing the relationship with Run 4 Wales for the foreseeable future. The Velothon series is now an established global brand with events across Europe, Canada and Australia and we look forward to the 4th edition of the event in Wales in 2018.”
